Matcha-ginger soda with lemon

It’s the perfect soda for the Lunar New Year! Matcha green tea powder is a finely milled tea that has great antioxidant properties. Paired with the ginger, this combination makes for one sparkly, Asian-inspired drink.

Blood orange soda with rosemary simple syrup

I didn’t really know what to expect when I put this drink together. I love rosemary, but it can be absolutely overwhelming. And how would it stand up to citrus. Turned out: Pretty damn well. The rosemary simple syrup was an afterthought both as you smell the soda and sip it. The rosemary really adds a floral note to the soda, and actually boosts how refreshing this drink is.

Chlementhymes with bourbon

The less ripe the clementines are, the better. The simple syrup in this recipe adds lots of sweetness fast, so tart clementines do a nice job of balancing things.

Thyme simple syrup

You can use this recipe to make many kinds of herbal simple syrups. Other types I’d like to try: rosemary, lavender and basil. I already tried mint in this mint juleps recipe. Once you’ve got the simple syrup made, you can add it to all kinds of cocktails. I’ll be sharing one that uses fresh clementine juice this week. UPDATE: Here’s the recipe for bourbon clementhymes.

Peach-tomato-basil smoothie

I’ve tried the tomato-peach (well, nectarine) combination before in pizza form and loved it, so I decided to give it another spin for our smoothie guide. I didn’t realize until now how scarily similar the ingredient lists for the pizza and smoothie are. Main differences: The pizza has crust and cheese, and the smoothie has Greek yogurt. Keep ’em separate, folks.
