Fresh-squeezed vanilla-rosemary lemonade

Lemonade isn’t just for summertime! Rosemary and citrus is a classic cool-weather combination that’s rounded out nicely with a hint of vanilla in this drink.

  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 4 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • 2 cups lemon juice (from 8-10 lemons)
  • ice
  • 1 lemon, sliced into thin rounds for garnish
  • additional rosemary sprigs for garnish

Combine the water, sugar, vanilla and 4 sprigs of rosemary in a medium pot over medium heat. Bring to a boil and let simmer for 5 minutes. Strain the rosemary from the liquid. Allow to cool 10 minutes before placing in the fridge to chill for 1 hour.

Pour the rosemary water and lemon juice into a large pitcher and stir to combine. Serve the lemonade in glasses with ice, lemon rounds and rosemary sprigs.

Makes about 6 cups.

*We’re taking advantage of the winter citrus season (and healthy New Year’s resolutions) during the month of January. Look for six drink recipes focused on lemons, limes, grapefruits, oranges and more. Find all the Fresh-queezed recipes here.

If you spot a sale on a bag of lemons, snatch one up. It's always nice to have lemons on hand, and better yet, you can use them all up at once with this tangy lemonade. Now if summer would just hurry up and get here ...

  • 5 cups steaming water
  • 1 cup honey
  • juice from 10 lemons (about 1 1/2 cups)
  • 2 cups ice

Pour the hot water and honey into a 2-quart pitcher, and stir until the honey dissolves. Add the lemon juice and refrigerate until cold, about an hour. Fill the rest of the pitcher with ice, and serve.

Makes about 2 quarts

Here you go: a cup of late-summer buzz

Three things that make this drink fancy: watermelon juice, lemon wedges and Absolut Citron (You can use any citrus vodka, but isn't this bottle pretty?)

I made this for a recent family get-together, and everyone had seconds, thirds …

  • 2 quarts lemonade (prepared from concentrate or powder mix)
  • 2 liters lemon-lime soda
  • 1/2 liter citrus-flavored vodka
  • 1 cup watermelon juice*
  • lemon slices

Combine all ingredients except lemon slices in a large pitcher or bucket. (We tripled the recipe and served the drink out of a 5-gallon water-dispenser jug.) Serve lemon slices alongside.

*We gathered the juice from a watermelon as we scooped out chunks for another dish.
